Come join the Trail of Dreams on Monday, May 17th, 2010!
5:00 pm for distributing flyers, 7:00 pm for the game (block seating) @ Sun Life Stadium, 2267 Dan Marino Blvd., Miami, FL  33056

As national outrage builds against Arizona’s unjust and discriminatory SB 1070 law, a powerful and diverse coalition of South Florida synagogues, churches, community, cultural, advocacy and labor organizations will hold a press conference to announce two calls to action: to conduct an informational action at the Marlins vs. Diamondbacks game on Monday, May 17th and call for the 2011 Major League All Star Game to be pulled from Arizona unless SB 1070 is overturned.

We are calling for the 2011 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, presently scheduled to be played in Phoenix, AZ, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, to be relocated unless SB 1070 is overturned by the Arizona State Legislature and Governor. As opposition to the legislation builds from the MLB Players Association, team managers, players and sports commentators, coalitions from across the country will continue to take action wherever the Arizona Diamondbacks travel.

I came to this country 10 years ago, my dream was not too much about making money and having fancy stuff, but earning college education and become a professor. Working at nights and attending ESL classes during the days I became proficient enough in English to be accepted in college, being undocumented didn’t stopped, me I found a way. When I knew the cost of college I got a work in construction trying to make cash faster without major concerns of combining the hard work and high demanding college environment. I still remember the anxiety caused by one hour gap between job and classes, in that hour I had to eat and review homework. I earned my BA in 2007, but I discovered that I can’t get a job based on my degree, simply because I have not a SSN. Trying to pursue my dream, I applied for graduate school and my frustration increased when I was accepted, but I was not subject of financial aid because of my situation. I received acceptation letter from two universities in US as well as from Spain and Germany. Being unable to travel with freedom to Europe, I ended up enrolled in a distance program to earn my MA in International Relations. In order to be a professor I need to earn or at least start my Ph D, so I was accepted at the Graduate Institute for International Studies and Development in Geneva, and I had to decline the opportunity because was impossible to get a loan. I’m still in the EU, still working in construction with my diplomas somewhere in my closet. I write this, because I want you to keep working in defending your ideals, you guys need to find a way to access higher education and most importantly, have the opportunity to get a job after graduated. Please do not stop that hard work…! You’re already having results.
